The Secret Hiring Seasons You Must Target This Year
Why Job Hunting in July is a Nightmare
Imagine trying to buy a heavy winter coat in July. You can do it, but the selection is terrible and nobody is paying attention. The job market operates on seasonal cycles tied directly to corporate budgets and vacation habits.
The Peak Seasons
1. The “New Year” Boom (January – February)
This is the best time of year to find a new job. Budgets are refreshed, teams have new yearly goals, and hiring managers are back from the holidays feeling motivated.
2. The “Pre-Summer” Rush (September – October)
After the sluggish summer, companies realize they have money left in the budget that they need to use before the end of the year. It’s a mad dash to onboard people before Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Dead Zones
The Summer Slump (Late June – August)
Hiring managers are on vacation. HR is on vacation. If you get an interview, scheduling subsequent rounds can take weeks. Use this time to upskill and network, not to desperately apply.
The Holiday Freeze (Late November – December)
Almost zero hiring happens right before Christmas. Budgets are depleted and everyone is checked out. However, this is the best time to reach out to recruiters socially on LinkedIn to set up chats for January.
