Building a Personal Brand That Elevates Your Career

You Already Have a Brand

Jeff Bezos famously said, “Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.” Even if you don’t post on LinkedIn or have a personal website, you have a brand at work. Are you the reliable one? The disorganized one? The person who creates beautiful presentations?

Taking Control of the Narrative

To accelerate your career, you must intentionally shape that narrative. This doesn’t mean becoming an annoying “influencer.” It means consistently demonstrating expertise.

Step 1: Define Your Niche

You cannot be an expert at everything. Pick one specific intersection of skills. Instead of just “Graphic Designer,” be the “Graphic Designer who specializes in B2B SaaS conversion optimization.”

Step 2: Share Your Work Journey

Don’t just post final successes. Post about the process. Share the challenges you faced and how you overcame them. “We just spent 3 weeks struggling to integrate Platform A with Platform B. Here are the 3 mistakes we made so you can avoid them.” This provides immense value to others and positions you as an authority.

Pro Tip: Consistency is more important than virality. Posting one thoughtful insight every Tuesday for a year will build a stronger network than one post that gets 10,000 likes.
