Eligibility Criteria

Residency Requirements

Applicants must come from rural KwaZulu-Natal districts such as:

  • Umkhanyakude District: Bethesda, Hlabisa, Manguzi, Mosvold, Mseleni
  • Zululand District: Benedictine, Ceza, Itshelejuba, Nkonjeni, Vryheid
  • King Cetshwayo District: Catherine Booth, Ekombe, KwaMagwaza, Mbongolwane, Nkandla

Educational Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Be in or have completed Matric at a Quintile 1–3 non-fee-paying school
  • Be studying or planning to study a listed Health Science degree
  • Have or be awaiting acceptance at a public university (excluding UNISA)
  • Be entering 1st or 2nd year of study in 2026
  • Have NSFAS approval or active funding

Work-Back Commitment

Successful bursars must work for two years at a rural district hospital within KwaZulu-Natal after graduation.
